PAGE HIDDEN IN NAVIGATION - ENTRY NOW CLOSED
This 2022 event page is kept for a historical mail list that it's linked to but is not 'live' in the site navigation and entry is closed sorry.

Later to open than past years but thanks to support from Northern Consultancy and Gravel Union, plus ongoing support from komoot, the 6th TNR is happening and this is where it starts!

Update 29/04 - Entry applications here will be open until 5th May (you have longer after that date for your postcards to arrive at the TNR 'office').

The basics:
  • First Monday of September, as always. The 6th TNR starts on September the 5th 2022.
  • If you're not sure what the event involves just have a read through the FAQs page here. Section 5 mainly. The TNR is a realistic aim for almost anyone, still it's good to understand what to expect.
  • Postcard entry as usual with a draw for the available places. It slows down a potential rush to bag a place online and it's a bit of fun. This year's postcard theme is 'Interesting People', but any postcard will do.
  • There are a limited number of places and once I've had applications that total 2.5 to 3x the available places the entry process will close.
  • The draw for the places will take place in late May.
  • There is a small entry fee this year if you're lucky in the draw and would like to accept the place. We have to cover the cost of the TNR getting insured. Actual amount TBC ASAP. I promise it won't be a lot, less than a couple of rolls of bar tape sort of not-a-lot.
  • 50% of places are reserved for women riders. This should mean all women who enter will be guaranteed a place, no need for a draw. This is slightly different to the auto-entry of last few years but does the same thing - more women riders makes it a better space for all women riders. If you're entering as a M+F couple you'll both be entered but the M rider doesn't take up one of the women's 50% of allocated places (and how you define a couple is up to you not me). If there are more entries than the 50% allocation there will be a draw for them, if there are less entries those places may go into the general draw. Or that 50% allocation may go up. TBC.
  • This approach to women's entry applies to anyone with non-cisgender identity because it feels like the right thing to do.
  • I suppose the last 2 points opens the entry up to cynical exploitation by some because I can't check you are who you say you are online but the alternatives like not bothering with any of this are less appealing, and I think you're all good people who will understand this and not take the p.
  • The TNR welcomes riders from every background and it should be as welcoming as it can be for anyone who feels that cycling is still 'more for them than for me'. If you ride with a group who represents you and would like to know you can ride together, get in contact and places can be allocated to you. There's more we can do still, let's talk about how. Open to DMs.
  • Detailed information on the route, meet up locations, pre-ride dinner (all eating/drinking preferences all taken care of) will be sent by email soon after the draw has happened.
  • The best bit - 6th TNR patches and route cards with full komoot access codes - available early July.

PS this is about the OG original gravel rally, the Torino-Nice Rally run in September since 2016. There's a women-only event being planned by komoot that uses most of the TNR route (as they did last year, the komoot women's TNR) and I love what they're doing and support it. I don't have the details on it though sorry so if that's the ride you want, you'll need to contact komoot direct.

Want to send your postcard into the hat?
Fill out the form below and you'll get an email back including the address to send your postcard to.

In the form below you add
a simple code word that I can use to search / connect your postcard to your email address. This way you don't have to write your email on a postcard and I don't have to read your handwriting and get your email wrong : ) ...learnings from last year...

It's all manually done so expect a reply within 48 hours or less.

The email reply will also have some FAQ answers (how many riders per card, what info I need from you on the card, how long can the card take to get here, when the draw will be etc). Any other Qs after that, just reply back and we'll get it all clarified.

Entry barriers and mutual support
There are barriers for many which make doing the things we'd like to do more challenging. I don't have the answers to all these things of course, but the TNR has brought together an amazing network of riders so far and among them there will be someone who can help with advice or practical assistance on:
  • Enabling time away from care or other responsibilities
  • Mentorship or help in prep for anyone who hasn't done much of this before
  • Religious considerations
  • Making the rally an event for you
  • General travel logistics help, visa support, places to stay?
The TNR facebook group is one place to go to find those connections.
Facebook may be a bit too public or maybe you just avoid it so another option is to use the Contact Form here, I'll do my best to help or make a connection happen. The TNR is for everyone and supporting each other isn't limited to on the roads and tracks.
